In the book,'Totally Awesome 80s -- A Lexicon of the music, videos, TV shows, stars and trends of that decadent decade', a definition just blew me out:

Yuppies, Def:- Baby Boomers who had been hippies and anti-Establishment in the 60s became Super-Established in the 80s.

The author went on to elaborate,'The Yuppies made enormous salaries as computer technicians, entrepreneurs, doctors, and lawyers and in other cut-throat positions.'

What touched me was that with hindsight of the 90s and the new millenium, I wondered if my generation had missed the boat of material quest AND are we the lost generation?Call those born in the 80s and early 90s generation L; L for LOSERS.

The salaries of the supposed cut-throat positions nowadays are an insult to the word salary. Anyone who can manage to live comfortably in $ingapore at the income to cost of living ratio must be a financial balancing genius.The boomers of 80s inspired their kids (us) to aspire for the same level of comfort and disposable income... exponential increase of wealth... and developed in us a taste for capitalist goods of clothes, homes and toys. Welcome to the ugly truth generation L:work for peanuts! Your parents got lucky; you got dirt.

Go and listen to them crap about the hardships they went through for what they have today...lemme tell you,it boils down to luck as the factor,the fucking discrete random factor.

Luck as in whether they had met the right people, borned into the right family, got the right job and whether had they got the right opportunity!For the fucking rich kids of generation L, boy are you lucky,darn lil prick...parents work and you get the opportunities and $...screw up your education in Singapore?...No sweat!Dad will sponsor your education overseas...of course the education here is not suited for you!You are far too creative for our system!HAHA...fucking generation L.

But face it,end of the day,it's those people whose parents who had got lucky during the obscene boom of 80s who will have all the opportunities in career, in choices and life in general. Poor proles (80% of Singapore...nah make it 95%, the fucking middle class have no disposable income at all) will have to strive against the odds and delude themselves that education is the great social leveller..haha!

Go on generation L, believe in your dreams, chase the material boat, ace your papers and cross your fingers...all said it boils down to what Losers need most.
