2nd week of new term and the world starts to look brighter. That's when it's time to take a hard stamp on the ground beneath you... a usual scenario will see the earth that you are standing on crumbling like a broken jigsaw and collapsing into an metaphorical abyss.

The potential for a fall.

Now, I shall be a person what economists term as 'rational': quantify everything in terms of costs and benefits, evaluate your options and choose the most beneficial option available. If only 'ceteris paribus' exists all the time in real-life scenarios.

Why am I still waste my time on useless activities of orientation, Dinner and Dance and bashes? The benefits are almost zero and intangible, and everytime I say 'see you there!', it's always with a 20/20 hindsight of regret (especially when money is involved). Trying to obtain more clout in the school or getting to know more people from whom I can leech notes and tutorials from do not seem like logical nor measurable benefits. It's a mini-tragi-comedy when I have to work out the amount of money I can afford to spend each day (and it amounts to no more than $5 -- consideration must be given to my $3.30 nicotine fix everyday). But yet I am splurging on these needless social functions, wasting my precious time and money on 19 year old kids and post-army boys still riding on machismo... rationalism is in need here.

Help me!
